#Excerpt from #Inevitable a #Paranormal #Romance Coming 2016

December 3, 2015

I’m finally back to working on Inevitable. You guys have no idea how much I’ve missed this story. The chapter i just finished came out smoothly and beautifully. I hit 30,000 words, and since as of right now, this was is only supposed to be a novella, I don’t think it will go much past 40,000 words. I’m praying I’ll hit that word length by the end of the month. Wish me luck. In the meantime, here is a snippet for said chapter. #jenniferreynolds #inevitable #paranormal #romance #wip

#WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY #Excerpt from #SayingGoodbye a #Paranormal #Romance

December 2, 2015

Welcome back to WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY. If you are new to this hop or are just now deciding that joining this hop would be a great idea, visit the WIP IT IP WEDNESDAY blog home page at: http://wipitupwednesday.blogspot.co.uk/  to read the sign-up instructions. Also on that page, you will find links to other wonderful authors and their WIP.

Sorry about last week, but with the holiday, I just didn’t want to sign up and not be able to visit everyone’s posts.

Today I’ll be continuing to share an excerpt from my upcoming novella, Saying Goodbye. I’ve sent this novel to my betas this week. One has already gotten back to me and she loves it. I finally have a synopsis, but I’m not happy with it. I’ll include it here. I would greatly appreciate any help/suggestions. I’m still thinking the release date for this will be January 9th, 2016. Since this one is with my betas and the release date is so soon, I’ll probably stick with this novel until I get tired of it or until Outcast gets a little closer to its final draft. J

The following snippet comes right after the last snippet I posted. Erica is still at Michael’s funeral and is view his body for the first time.

---

Her parents were right though, she needed to see him. She had to be strong for his family. They had wanted her to stand with them throughout the entire visitation. She loved that they saw her as part of the family, but she couldn’t bring herself to stand that close to him for that long.

At the foot of his casket, she paused; she could see most of his face and the solid, dark gray suit in which someone had dressed him. The funeral home had done an amazing job. In passing, someone who didn’t know him might think he was sleeping, as her father promised. She knew better; she knew his color was off. She felt the lack of life in him. She knew his aura, his soul, the life he radiated, and she didn’t feel it.

“Breathe, you can do this,” her father said, and, for the second time, pulled on her arm.

Erica let her father lead her forward until she was standing beside the casket and looking down at the man she loved even though he no longer looked like Michael. His features were right, his scar was there, but something was missing. She stared down at him waiting for him to open his eyes, waiting for him to get back into his body and sit up, waiting for him to be her Michael again.

“Honey, it’s time to move on. You’ve seen enough,” her mother said. Her mother’s voice barely broke through Erica’s prayer, making her wonder how long she had been standing there.

She turned slowly to look at her mother, then nodded.

Erica left him without putting anything in the casket. There was nothing of hers or theirs for her to give. He took everything she had when he left.

Caroline, Michael’s mother, was the first person Erica met after leaving Michael’s side. She hugged Erica tight and for so long that her father and Michael’s father, John, had to separate them. Erica had stopped crying before they entered the room, but seeing the woman’s lost look brought soundless tears to her eyes. She didn’t stop them from flowing, but she refused to utter a noise. If she opened her mouth, she would scream, and she was afraid that if she started screaming she would never stop.

John wiped tears from her face but didn’t hug her. Michael’s brother, Carl, did

---

That’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed it.

---

Michael was Erica’s world, her soul mate, her future husband and father of her unborn kids. From the day they met as children, she had planned her entire life around him, so when he died too young, she was faced with a blank future that she did not intend to fill.

On the one-year anniversary of his death, she discovers that he hasn’t left her completely. Learning that her longing for him and his desire for her allows him to move in the human world for short periods of time gives her something to live for. As the years pass, his ability grows and changes, giving him hope that there might be a way for him to one-day come back to Earth permanently.

But have too many years gone by with the two of them spending too much time apart to rekindle a teenage romance and turn it into something more? And if they are able to reignite that spark, can they live with the sacrifices they must make in order to bring him back?

Abby is a plus size woman struggling to learn to love herself despite the damage her ex did to her mentally and psychically. For reasons unknown to her, she wakes one morning with an urge to adopt another cat. What she doesn’t know is that the cat she picks is actually Dimitri Sullivan, the son of a local shapeshifter pack’s alpha who was cursed by a powerful witch into the form of a common housecat after he had a one-nightstand with her. As the months pass, Dimitri finds himself falling in love with his new owner, but there is just one problem, she doesn’t know that he is her cat and she is currently dating his brother. When the witch that cursed him dis-covers that by falling for Abby, he is weakening her curse, she sets out to stop this from happening by any means necessary.

#8Sunday and #SnippetSunday Excerpt from #Resistant

November 22, 2015

Thank you, everyone, for stopping by my Snippet Sunday & Writing Warriors’ #8Sunday blog hop post. I hope everyone his having a great November and for those who celebrate, are you ready for Thanksgiving?

Today, I’ll be sharing from my new release, Resistant, a sci-fi/horror romance. Resistant is a romance set in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. Saying Goodbye, my paranormal love story and upcoming release, is back from editing, but I’m going to wait until December to go back to sharing from that novella.

In this excerpt, Sahara, the main character, is alone and unwilling to leave her house due to the zombies roaming her neighborhood. I’ve moved a head a tiny bit to end the chapter.

Life went along that way for another month. I felt myself slowly going crazy. You can only kill so many people—yes, they were zombies, but many of them looked relatively normal—before your brain starts to snap. I tried to keep myself busy when I wasn’t killing. I forced myself into a workout routine. I read every book I could get my hands on that had to do with zombies from the places I scavenged, but I was never able to bring myself to go beyond the yards of the homes surrounding me. I didn’t search for survivors. I stayed right where I was and let my sanity slip away.

Thank you for stopping by. If you want to read more excerpts from other authors or if you want to join in the fun, stop by both blogs to check things out.

#WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY #Excerpt from #SayingGoodbye a #Paranormal #LoveStory

Welcome back to WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY. Also on that page, you will find links to other wonderful authors and their WIP.

I managed to make it two weeks in a row. Yay me.

Today I’ll be continuing to sharing an excerpt from my upcoming novella, Saying Goodbye. I’m still working on my last read-through of the novel. I should finish it this week. Once I finish this read-through, I’ll start working on a synopsis and contacting my betas. I’m thinking the release date for this will be January 9th, 2016. Since this one is back from editing and the release date is so soon, I’ll probably stick with this novel until I get tired of it or until Outcast gets a little closer to its final draft. :)

The following snippet comes right after the last snippet I posted. Just a little warning. Things are going to get a little sad for a while.

---

Erica wished she could say that she didn’t remember the visitation and the funeral. She wanted to be one of those people who blocked all of those thoughts, those images from their mind, but she wasn’t. She remembered it all.

To her shock, the visitation was open casket. In her mind, from the moment her dad told her his family would have a viewing, she saw him bloody, bruised, busted up, too grotesque for the world to see.

When she entered the funeral parlor and saw the open lid, she froze. She couldn’t see him that way. She didn’t want to remember him that way. She wanted the vision of her perfect angel-faced Michael with the scar above his left eye, day old stubble on his chin, and unruly brown hair to be the only image of him she would ever have in her head.

Her father took her by the arm and said, “It’s all right. They fixed him up nicely.”

That wasn’t at all comforting to her. No part of her wanted to see him, but she let her father lead her down the aisle. That day, that situation was not how she pictured the first time she walked down an aisle, arm and arm, with her father to look like. The man at the front of the room was supposed to be standing, looking dashing in his tuxedo, not lying down in a silk-lined casket wearing a gray suit. The flowers around him were supposed to be pink roses and baby’s breath, not white roses and gaudy wreaths.

Her mother followed behind them, rubbing Erica’s back. James, her older brother, his girlfriend, and her little sister, Emmy, were behind her mother. James awkwardly held his girlfriend’s hand, while trying to hold Emmy in an upright position. Her little sister, aside from herself, took the news the hardest. Emmy had worshipped Michael, and he had adored her.

The closer they got to his coffin and his family, the slower Erica walked. She couldn’t force herself to go faster. She couldn’t make herself see him laid out in the casket. Even glimpsing him that way would make everything a little more real than she needed it to be. A part of her hoped that all of it was some elaborate prank his frat brothers decided to play, but she knew they weren’t that cruel.

Her father pulled on her arm slightly to speed her up. He and her mother had assured her that she needed to view the body and pay her respects to the family. They said that it would be therapeutic for her to see him that way, to get that last bit of closure that seeing him would give her; visitations, funerals, in their mind helped people deal with death…helped them mourn.

Erica didn’t believe anything would help her get over losing Michael. He was her world, her life, her past, and her future. She was nothing without him. She understood, more than they realized that he was gone. Seeing his body couldn’t possibly cement the fact any more than it already was.

 ---

That’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed it.

#SnippetSunday #8Sunday #Excerpt from #Resistant only $2.99

November 15, 2015

Thank you, everyone, for stopping by my Snippet Sunday & Writing Warriors’ #8Sunday blog hop post. I hope everyone his having a great November. Who else feels way behind in their Christmas shopping and it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet?

Today, I’ll be sharing from my new release, Resistant, a sci-fi/horror romance. Resistant is romance set in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. Saying Goodbye, my paranormal love story and upcoming release, is back from editing, but I’m going to wait until December to go back to sharing from that novella.

In this excerpt, Sahara, the main character, is alone and unwilling to leave her house due to the zombies roaming her neighborhood. At this moment, she is raiding her neighbor's home for supplies.

---

I shouldered my gun and searched the house. I found no one. The bodies on the front walk were too bloated and too nasty to touch, though I seriously wanted to throw them over the fence and out of my line of sight. Not to mention their smell was drawing the attention of other zombies. They couldn’t get to me, but the sound of them moaning and growling so close was creepy. I loaded the pack on my back with all the dry food I could fit in it. Other things that wouldn’t damage in a fall, like toilet paper, I threw over the fence. I didn’t clean the house in that trip, but I did make a mental note of what the Jacksons had.

 ---

Thank you for stopping by. If you want to read more excerpts from other authors or if you want to join in the fun, stop by both blogs to check things out.

---

On a different note, here is an example of how widely different peoples' tastes can run. In two days I received a 5 Star Review of Resistant and a 1 Star review (my first ever). This is why I tell people if the cover and synopsis appeals to you, read it no matter what anyone else says about it. That isn't a guarantee you'll love it or hate it as much as they do, but at least you can form your own opinion. I'm sorry this person didn't enjoy the novel, but I'm glad so many others have. :)

Resistant, a Sci-Fi/Horror Romance*****$2.99*****

Before the outbreak, Sahara was a high school teacher living alone in a small Alabama town. She saw her life as nothing more than endless days of teaching children Shakespeare and nights reading paranormal romances. She was happy with her life, as quiet and mundane as it was.
After the outbreak, Sahara becomes a warrior traveling across the country in search of sanctuary. She spends her days and nights killing zombies, searching for food, trying to maintain her sanity, and if Daniel has his say, finding love.
How will Sahara help those who are left find safety and stability in a world full of nightmares? Will she stop resisting the man she loves and open her heart, knowing that he may not live through the next second let alone the next year? Join Sahara and her people in a fight against creatures set out to devour them and the unknown threat controlling them to find out.

As the months pass, Dimitri finds himself falling in love with his new owner, but there is just one problem, she doesn’t know that he is her cat and she is currently dating his brother. #WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY #Excerpt from #SayingGoodbye Coming 2016

November 10, 2015

Welcome back to WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY. If you are new to this hop or are just now deciding that joining this hop would be a great idea, visit the WIP IT IP WEDNESDAY blog home page at:

http://wipitupwednesday.blogspot.co.uk/  to read the sign-up instructions. Also on that page, you will find links to other wonderful authors and their WIP.

I’m sorry I missed last week. It was my niece’s birthday. :) :)

Today I’ll be sharing an excerpt from my upcoming novella, Saying Goodbye. This novella is finally back from editing. I’ve incorporated all my editor’s notes and have begun my last read-through of the novel. Once I finish this read-through, I’ll be contacting my betas. I’m thinking the release date for this will be January 9th, 2016. I still don’t have a synopsis, but hope to have one ready for you soon. Since this one is back from editing and the release date is so soon, I’ll probably stick with this novel until I get tired of it or until Outcast get a little closer to its final draft. J

The following snippet comes right after the last snippet I posted. I thought about dragging this one out, but since I had left you hanging with my last one, I figured I should go ahead and give you the rest of this chapter.

---

Just as she was about to get up to go find out, two cars pulled up and her parents disappeared into Stacy’s office. When her customer had pulled away, Erica felt a hand on her shoulder. She froze. She was in trouble. She hadn’t been that late for work, but since she had come in looking like crap on top of that, Stacy wasn’t pleased. Her firm grip told Erica that she was right, one of the other managers or employees had tattled. The vultures. Some people accused her of getting special treatment because her mother was best friends with the manager. Erica didn’t think she did, but she might. The problem really was that they couldn’t stand the fact that she was actually good at the job.

“Erica, would you come with me, please?” Stacy asked.

She only nodded and stood.

“Katie, if you need help, call Catherine over,” Stacy said, as she and Erica turned to go to her office.

“Yes ma’am,” Katie said, watching them slowly walk away.

Erica followed the woman into her office where she saw her parents standing there waiting on them. Erica’s mother was holding Erica’s purse and jacket. If Stacey was firing me, she didn’t have to bring them in, Erica thought. I’m a big girl. I can take it. She started to say this when her mother stepped up and handed Erica her jacket.

“Put this on, sweetie. It’s a bit cool outside,” her mom said, looking at her as if she were about to burst into tears.

Erica took the jacket from her, and as she was putting one arm through a sleeve, she asked, “What’s going on?”

“Your father and I are here to take you home,” her mother said.

“Why? Mrs. Green, if you’re firing me, can I ask why?” Erica turned to her boss because the look of sadness, pity, fear, and exhaustion on her parents’ faces scared her.

“I’m not firing you, honey. Your parents are just here to take you home, and I’m giving you the week off.”

Okay not fired, just suspended. Great, Erica thought.

“Off?” she asked, wanting to hear from the woman what she had done. “Why? Did I do something wrong?”

“No, you didn’t do anything.”

“Come on, Erica. Let’s get you home, and we’ll explain everything there,” her father said, putting his arm around her and turning her to the door.

“Explain? Explain what?” she asked, resisting him.

“Not here,” he said, trying to usher her further out of the room and building.

Something serious was going on here, and she was scared. His actions and the way Stacy wouldn’t meet her eye, told her much more was going on than her simply coming in late looking like the walking dead. She needed to know what was wrong, and she needed to know right then. She jerked out of her father’s grip and said, “You guys are really starting to freak me out. Why can’t you tell me here? What’s happened? What’ve I done?”

“Sweetie,” her mother said, “you haven’t done anything, but your father’s right, this isn’t the place for this.”

In a flash, Erica was back to her sixteen-year-old defiant self. She crossed her arms, glared at them, and said, “I’m not going anywhere until you tell me. If I’m not in trouble or fired, then why are you here? Why are you picking me up from work when I have a perfectly good car out in the parking lot?” A short pause followed. “Mom, please…” she begged when no one looked as if they were going to speak.

Her dad sighed. Stacey slumped in her seat, and her mom started crying, which threw her completely off balance because her mom didn’t cry unless she was so mad she couldn’t speak or someone died. Erica’s eyes widen as she watched her mother’s face. That was it. Someone was dead. Her first thought was of her grandmother. She’d been sick for a while.

Erica dropped her purse to the floor, stepped back from her parents, and asked, “Who?”

Her mother cried harder. Stacey left her seat to go to her friend and pull her to a chair, and her father moved toward Erica.

“Honey, come sit down,” her father said, reaching for her.

“No, tell me. Was it Grandma Rose?”

“No, it wasn’t your grandma. It was…”

“Daddy?” Erica pleaded. Her words brought a tear to his eyes, and again, she knew it was someone close to them, someone very close. Someone Erica loved more than anyone in this world. Someone… She started shaking her head and saying, no, no, no, over and over again.

“Oh, baby, I’m so sorry. It happened early this morning. It was an accident,” her father said and reached for her.

She couldn’t hear his words. She didn’t want to hear them. She wanted him to stop talking so that none of it would be real, could be true. If no one told her, if she didn’t know, then it didn’t happen.

“He was walking home from that party. The driver said he came out of nowhere. That he didn’t see him until it was too late. The driver had been going too fast to miss him.” Her dad continued to talk. To tell her how he lived for about an hour after he got to the hospital, but his injuries were just too bad. He never woke though. Probably didn’t feel any pain. Didn’t know what had happened to him.

Erica stopped listening to her father. She kept seeing him the way he had looked the night before in his pirate costume. She kept seeing the way he had looked at her in hers. She thought about how much that look had said he would much rather stay home. If they had… If she had begged him to the way she had wanted. Sure, he would have been upset with her. They would have argued, maybe even fought, but they would have stayed home. They would have made up, and he wouldn’t have…

Her sorrow exploded from her in an ear-bursting scream, and she hit the floor before her dad could catch her.

That’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed it.
