BRING HER WOLF

“It takes more than a kiss to bring out a wolf, Chloe.” His voice was a soft murmur on my skin. He kissed me again, nipping the nape of my neck with his lips.
“How do you know?” I tested his grip again, disappointed to find it as firm as ever. Jackson wasn’t going to let me go any time soon. My wolf gave a low growl, unhappy at being restrained.
“Because my mom said so.” His lips moved to the hollow of my throat and pressed against the pulse that thundered there.
“Did she also tell you to sleep with everything that moved?”
His lips went still. “You sound upset.” His inflection implied I shouldn’t be and it rankled.
I huffed, irritated. “You’ve been sleeping your way through town. It doesn’t exactly make a girl feel special to be last on the list.”
“You’ve got me all wrong.”
I opened my eyes for a second to glare at him. “How so?” I closed my eyes again, not wanting to lose sight of my wolf. She sniffed the ground in my mind’s eye, looking for something.
“You were always first on the list.”

“You did it,” he said, patting my head.
Did what, I wanted to ask, but all that came out were some strangled high pitched sounds.
He pointed at me. “Look at yourself.”
I looked down and saw a dainty paw. Looking behind me, my gaze caught the side of my flank and the tail beyond.
My wolf had come.

THE ALPHA’S MATE
Little known fact about being a werewolf: There are always wolves at your door and some of them are up to no good.

You’d think that werewolves would lead lives of action and adventure, using their superior strength and senses to their advantage.
You would be wrong.
In reality, wolves like to overeat (mostly chicken wings) and gossip. They especially love a good rumor, the more scandalous, the more salacious, the better. I knew firsthand how insular packs could be as I’d been the subject of wagging tongues my whole life.
Being the only null in four generations could do that to you.

“You ran away,” he said, the words harsh, but the tone soft. “Why?”
I looked at him. Jackson didn’t appear to be as mad now. Or, rather, he held his anger in check to give me a chance to make things right.
“Because,” I paused scared of the words that were about to come out of my mouth. “She made me feel like nothing.” I said it all in a rush.
He spread his hands out and then brought them together again with a quiet clap. “You’re not nothing, Clo. You’re my mate. You’re the alpha’s mate. That’s about as close as you can get to being a queen without a crown.”

He grabbed my hand and lifted it to his lips. “You want a ring?” He kissed my knuckles in turn, his lips soft, his breath hot.
I shivered. “I want everything, Jacks.”
He folded his hand around mine and pressed it against his chest. “Then I’ll give you everything.”

I gave Jackson a quick kiss on the cheek as I took my plate into the kitchen.
He smiled at me. “What’s that for?”
Doing the dishes.”
Jackson shrugged and leaned in close to whisper, “I heard somewhere that this is like porn for women. Tell me, are you wet? Does this make you hot?” He made a show of soaping up the griddle I’d used to make the pancakes. Instead of scrubbing, he caressed the pan with long, even strokes, all the while staring at me meaningfully.
I giggled. “Jackson stop.”
He frowned in mock outrage. “What do you mean stop? You know what they say, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.” He abandoned the dishes then and grabbed me, pulling me close for a kiss.
My knees went weak as his lips took possession of mine. The weight of his hands on my hips, the way his thumbs dipping inside the waistband to stroke my skin made my heart flutter. My wolf did a little happy dance, her delicate paws prancing on the ground, ears straight up and tail wagging. She loved it when Jackson was dominant with me.
He came up for air a second later. “Well, Clo?”
“Well what?” I said, my voice breathless.
“Can you take the heat?”
I held his eyes with mine. “Yeah, I can take the heat.” I slid my hand down and massaged him through his jeans until he was nice and hard.
He hissed. “Clo.”
I removed my hand and kissed his cheek again. “Wait until you see what I do when you mop the floor.” With that, I sauntered out of the kitchen, leaving him slack-jawed.
“Wait. Mop? What?” He called after me, utterly confused. “That wasn’t the plan, Clo.”
I just laughed and kept going. I could still hear Jackson talking to himself in the kitchen, completely flummoxed.
“Do we even own a mop?” He banged and clanked dishes around.
I shook my head, a big wolf smile on my face.
