Today I’m switching gears and for the next few months will be sharing excerpts from my upcoming novella, Saying Goodbye. Right now, I’m looking at an October 15, 2015 release date for this novel. I don’t have a synopsis for the novel yet, but in a nutshell it is a paranormal love story/love triangle about a ghost who is trying to find a way to stay on earth to be with the love of his life. In doing so, he introduces her to a man that she might start having feelings for.
The following snippet is a continuation from last week.
On that Halloween, Michael was a senior at the local university and majoring in business. His parents owned a small chain of pizza and sub shops spanning the North West corner of the state. He had split his senior year, taking only half the classes he would have normally taken that semester, and taking the other classes the next semester, so that he could help with his parents’ newest restaurant. Because he spent so much time at the restaurant, he had gotten his own apartment close to the new restaurant, so that he could walk home from the restaurant after they closed to clean up and crash or study.
“All of them may not, but I promised Kevin and Travis I would be there, so I have to show. Come on, Erica, it won’t be that bad.” They both knew it would be…for her at least. She loathed such situations and gatherings, and he knew it and only asked her to attend a few a year. He loved them as much as she hated them, so she went to make him happy.
Kevin and Travis were his childhood best friends. Erica had grown up with the boys as well, but they were his friends not hers. They were second in line under Erica on Michael’s “most important people in his life beside his parents and younger sister” list. Erica was first, of course. She had known him as long as Kevin and Travis, but when they started dating in the tenth grade, she surpassed them in importance.
“Yes, it will, but fine, we’ll go, but can we please leave before midnight? I have to open the drive-thru window in the morning,” She begged, arranging and rearranging her outfit, and procrastinating about leaving the bathroom.
The bank she worked at was a decent place to work, and she wanted to stay in their good graces. She wasn’t one of those people who knew what they wanted to do when they grew up. She’d thought about a number of different occupations, even tried a few of them, but nothing seemed right for her. When her mom saw that she was excelling in all of her math classes at the university and had a healthy understanding of computers, she called her best friend, Stacy, the bank manager at First Union, and asked if she had a position open.
Stacy said she did, but it was only part time and the shifts were the ones that no one wanted. The bank was trying out some new things. One of which was staying open later on weekdays. This meant that Erica worked the four to eight shift four days a week and the eight to noon shift on Saturdays, giving her nineteen hours a week at minim wage with a possible raise in six months and full time employment the next time a position became available. She’d been there for three months, at that time, and Stacy seemed happy with her work, though no one appeared to be leaving anytime soon, to Erica’s dismay.
Erica was still taking classes, but only until Stacy hired her on full time and a bigger raise went into effect. College wasn’t for her, and her parents knew it. The only reason they were continuing to pay her tuition was because they wanted her to have as much of an education as possible, and they knew she would put forth as much effort as she could into the math, English, and art classes she was taking. If she actually graduated before a full-time position became available, then so be it.
Michael growled at her request to leave early, but didn’t argue—he didn’t agree either. Erica knew exactly what would happen. He would bring her home at midnight, stay with her for about a half an hour until she grew sleepy, then he would use his charms to convince her to let him go back to the party, which she would do because she thought he was that cute. Also, if she didn’t relent, he would sulk all night, and she wouldn’t get much sleep anyway.
“Fine,” he eventually said when she didn’t say another word or come out of the bathroom. “Now, will you please come on?” She could hear him pacing anxiously back and forth across the short room.

#SnippetSunday #8Sunday #Excerpt from #SayingGoodbye a #paranormal #lovestory
Thank you, everyone, for stopping by my Snippet Sunday Writing Warriors’ #8Sunday blog hop post. Today will be my second excerpt from my upcoming novella, Saying Goodbye. Right now, I’m looking at a October 15, 2015 release date. I don’t have a synopsis for the novel yet, but in a nutshell it is a paranormal love story/love triangle about a ghost who is trying to find a way to stay on earth to be with the love of his life. In doing so, he introduces her to a man that she might start having feelings for.
The following snippet follows last week’s post.
“He had better be wearing the costume,” she muttered to herself. “If I leave this bathroom and he hasn’t changed, I’m going to strangle him.” The dressing up for the party had been Michael’s idea not hers. She had suggested they stay home and veg that Halloween, but her words had fallen on deaf ears. Despite her annoyance with the costume, she had to admit, she looked good even if she felt like a fool.
The costumes had cost a pretty penny to rent, and she had protested getting them; even more so when he told her he wanted the two of them to wear them to the frat party where they would definitely get stained or ripped or something worse. They would end up having to pay even more money for them, which was a whole other reason she didn’t want to wear the thing.
“My house is throwing the party, I have to go,” Michael said from the other room. His tone showed his annoyance at having to have the conversation again. He loved her, she knew he did, and she could tell she was hurting him by not wanting to go, but she just didn’t think she could wear the outfit in public.
Thank you for stopping by. If you want to read more excerpts from other authors or if you want to join in the fun, stop by both blogs and peruse their sights.

In doing so, he introduces her to a man that she might start having feelings for.
The following snippet is the first two pages or so of the novel. This snippet introduces the couple before Michael dies.
“Do we really have to go to this stupid party?” Erica asked loud enough for her boyfriend to hear on the other side of the bathroom door. She was unable to keep the whine out of her voice.
Standing in front of the mirror in the bathroom of her boyfriend’s tiny apartment, Erica looked questioningly down at her Pirates of the Caribbean costume. She tugged on different sections of the outfit, trying to cover certain parts of her body without revealing others. Of course Michael would have picked out the sexiest version of the costume he could find. Realizing that all of his frat brothers would be ogling her just because of how much skin she was showing, she groaned.
Erica was supposed to be dressed as Elizabeth Swan, and surprisingly, she thought she pulled off the look. She didn’t think she would have worn anything like the outfit if Michael, her loving, doting, and sometime piggish boyfriend, hadn’t picked it out for her. Michael was supposed to be in the other room putting on his Captain Jack costume.
“He had better be wearing the costume,” she muttered to herself. “If I leave this bathroom and he hasn’t changed, I’m going to strangle him.” The dressing up for the party had been Michael’s idea not hers. He loved her, she knew he did, and she could tell she was hurting him by not wanting to go, but she just didn’t think she could wear the outfit in public.
“But you don’t live with them,” she said, not at all helping her case. “I bet they won’t even notice we aren’t there.”

#WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY #Excerpt from #Resistant, a #SciFi/Horror #Romance

Also on that page, you will find links to other wonderful authors and their WIP.
This is my twenty-sixth week on this blog hop. Resistant is still with my editor, we’re finalizing the novel, and No Sweat Graphics is still working on the cover. We had decided on one, but then my husband had a few suggestions, so the one attached to this post in what I got back last night. I’ve finished my last read-through of my novella, Saying Goodbye, which I’ll start sharing here next week. I have the cover for it already, but not a synopsis. I’ll try to have one for you guys next week. I’m also currently writing two paranormal romances. One is a full-length novel and the other is a novella. I’ll try to start sharing from those in a few months. They aren’t scheduled for release until next year.
I’m continuing this week with an excerpt from my current romance WIP, Resistant. This will be the last excerpt from this novel. I do promise to keep you guys posted on the novel’s release.
Resistant’s Synopsis:
Before they came, Sahara was an overweight high school teacher living alone in a small Alabama town. She saw her life as nothing more than endless days of teaching children Shakespeare and nights reading paranormal romances. She was happy with her life, as quiet and mundane as it was.
There were warning signs. The world knew something was coming, they just didn’t know when or how devastating it would be. Sahara reluctantly heeded this signs, believed what they foretold, but she wasn’t ready for how quickly it happened or how drastically it changed her life.
With the release of a single scream that broke the night, Sahara woke to find herself in the middle of the apocalypse. She stared out of her bedroom window and watched as her neighbors devoured one another. For a long time afterwards she hid, she rationed, she tried to maintain her sanity, never venturing out into the world of the walking dead, then one day a group of survivors barraged into her life and changed it once again. They dragged her into their new world and taught her to fight, to lead, and one of them may even teach her to love.
Will Sahara help those who are left find safety and stability in a world full of nightmares? Will Sahara chance opening her heart to someone, knowing that one of them may not live through the next second let alone the next year? Join Sahara and her people in this fight against creatures set out to devour them and the unknown threat that is controlling them to find out.
Everything is still moving in a timely manner, which means that I’m still looking for Resistant to go on sale at the end of September.
Anyway, on to the excerpt. I’m jumping a head a few paragraphs. This scene is takes place shortly after the last. They’ve decided that the group needs to check out the location of the radio broadcast, but only Sahara is going. Daniel is staying with the group. Things are about to change again for the couple, but to find out how, you’ll have to get the book when it goes on sale. I know, I’m mean. I hope you enjoy it. J
---
We decided on a small group for the initial run. Me, Charles, Divya, and Carlos, the man who had the technical know-how to track the broadcast. Daniel wasn’t happy, and to be honest I really didn’t want to leave him, but we didn’t need a large convoy if it turned out that we were following a dead end and Daniel, being the de facto leader of our group, needed to stay with the group.
The morning we took off up Hwy 78 in search of the signal, Daniel woke me early to have a couple of rounds of sex…not that I minded.
“You’re acting as if I’m not coming back. We will only be gone a few days,” I said as he began round three.
“I know, but I want you thoroughly satiated before you leave.”
“What, do you think I’m going to cheat on you while I’m gone? You don’t trust me or think I have enough will-power to go without for a few days.”
“No, no, that’s not what I’m saying at all. I just want you to get your fill so you won’t miss me, that’s all.”
“Oh, okay. Are you sure it isn’t the other way around. I mean you’re the one who can’t keep your hands of me. I think you’ll be the one suffering while I’m gone.”
“I can’t keep my hands off you. You’re the one who snuck up to the roof last night three different times while I was on watch to suck my dick.”
“Hey, I only blew you twice. On my third trip, you fingered me. Besides, you didn’t protest. And you’re the one who keeps fucking me while we are supposed to be out on patrol.”
“I can’t help it. I can’t seem to go a moment without wanting you, without wanting to be in you. And it isn’t as if you aren’t more than ready for me every time. Woman, I swear you stay wet.”
“Only for you.”
“Good,” he growled and entered me.
We would have stayed that way all day if Charles hadn’t interrupted us twenty minutes later. “Guys, I hate to do this to you, but we’re leaving in fifteen. Sahara, if you’re going with us, then you’d better get a move on,” he called from the other side of our makeshift wall.
“All right, I’m coming,” I called back.
“Yes, you are,” Daniel said and a few seconds later I was.
Charles didn’t stick around to hear me though. At least I don’t think he did.
Daniel tried distracting me while I dressed, but I held strong and didn’t let his kisses and caresses make me late.
“I love you,” he said solemnly, as I got into the SUV next to Charles.
“I love you, too,” I said back, fighting tears. I don’t know why I was on the verge of crying. There was no doubt in my mind that I would return to him.
“Be safe,” he whispered and kissed me.
“I will,” I said instead of good-bye. I watched him out of my rearview mirror as we drove away.

#Excerpt from #Outcast, a #ParanormalRomance coming 2016
Good afternoon everyone, I just wanted to stop by and give you all a little update on what I'm working on right now. Outcast is moving along nicely. I didn't write anything Saturday, but I did work on Outcast and the untitled novella yesterday. I wrote another 1,000 words on Outcast today as well. You would think by this point I would have put my characters through enough, but I have a few more things planned for them before all is said and done. Here is a snippet from what I wrote today.
What I've Read this Week 7-24-15
7-18-15 -- I finished reading Dying to Remember last night. I'm loving this series. I gave it 5 stars. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16440866-dying-to-remember
7-19-15 -- I finished listening to Reverb this morning. I loved this book. I wasn't a fan of the point-of-view, but for the most part, the novels is intense and amazing. 4 Stars. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17283481-reverb
7-20-15 -- I finished His Secretary Undone this morning. I loved it and gave it 5 Stars.

#WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY #Excerpt from Resistant, a sci/fi/horror romance, coming fall 2015
Welcome back to WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY. If you are new to this hop or are just deciding that joining this hop would be a great idea, visit the WIP IT IP WEDNESDAY blog home page at: http://wipitupwednesday.blogspot.co.uk/ to read the sign-up instructions. Also on that page, you will find links to other wonderful authors and their WIP.
This is my twenty-fifth week on this blog hop. Resistant is still with my editor, we’ve finalized the novel, and No Sweat Graphics is still working on the cover. We had decided on one, but then my husband had a few suggestions, so I’m waiting for that draft. I’m nearly finished with my last read-through of my novella, Saying Goodbye, which I’ll probably start sharing here next month. I have the cover for it already, but not a synopsis. I’m also currently writing two paranormal romances. One is a full-length novel and the other is a novella. I’ll try to start sharing from those in a few months. They aren’t scheduled for release until next year.
I’m continuing this week with an excerpt from my current romance WIP, Resistant.
Here is what we have for a cover as of right now. I'll share the new as soon as I have and only if I I change covers. :)
Everything is still moving in a timely manner, which means that I’m still looking for Resistant to go on sale at the end of September.
Anyway, on to the excerpt. This scene is a continuation from my last post. I hope you enjoy it.

The zombie herd was dwindling to a few stragglers, and if we were going to pick up a broadcast, it would be then, and I was right. Just as the last of the zombies disappeared down the road, Daniel stumbled onto a station. The voice coming from the radio was female and though static broke most of her words, we got that she was broadcasting from Missouri and that she had news about the herds, about why they were going south, but so much of the broadcast was distorted that it was hard to make out. I thought I heard something about a bomb and war, but thought surely I was wrong. Daniel heard the same things I did, but also assumed that he hadn’t heard her correctly.
Half an hour later, we were heading back home. I fiddled with the radio, trying to pick up other broadcasts while we both ruminated on what we might have heard. When we got back to camp, what information we did pick up or thought we picked up from the woman was the focus of our discussion, which Daniel and I both preferred. We wanted our engagement to be ours for as long as possible. Eventually, someone would see the ring, would ask questions, but until then we enjoyed our secret.
No one had had an actual wedding in so long I couldn’t remember the last couple to get married. Most people simply moved in with one another, announced that they were married, and we accepted it. Daniel didn’t want this though, and I was glad he told me so the following afternoon after we had woken and made love again.
“I want us to have a wedding. I know it is ridiculous, but I want one. I want to see you dressed in a pretty dress. To see you walk down an isle toward me. I want to exchange vows that will link us together for eternity. I want to say ‘I do’ and kiss you in front of the entire camp,” he said softly, while stroking my back.
All of it sounded perfect, but a part of me was reluctant. I worried that the others might resent us for it. Besides, we didn’t have a priest, preacher, justice of the peace, or anyone else authorized to preform weddings. At least, not that I was aware. I relented, but asked him if we could wait awhile before doing it. I wanted to wait to see what was going on with the zombies. Wanted to go to Missouri and find the woman on the radio to see what she knew. What I didn’t tell him was that I wanted him to be sure he wanted to do this, and to be sure he loved me. What he was feeling for me might be a temporary thing. We hadn’t been together for very long, so he might change his mind once he got to know me. I didn’t voice any of that last bit, of course. He would have argued with me, denied that he could be settling or only feeling lustful because he had gone so long without.
