I’m back. Sorry that I missed last week, but things were just so hectic. This week my WIP post is from my upcoming romance novel, Resistant, set in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. This excerpt comes from chapter 4, and the very next morning after she and Daniel meet.

A loud commanding voice woke me at sunrise a few hours later. A pounding on my bedroom door followed the voice seconds later. “Son-of-a…” I mumbled, jumping at the noise. I rose, looked out my bedroom window, and saw the soft light of the sun slowly breaking through the curtains. “Really.” I plopped back on the pillow, pulled the cover over my head, and started to doze back off. I wasn’t part of their military, and I didn’t want them there. If they insisted on being there, they could take care of themselves.
Seconds later, another pounding came at the door. I threw the blankets off me, rolled out of bed, stomped to the door, and jerked it open. “What?” I demanded.
Daniel stood outside my door, mouth open in a silent remark. I looked down at myself and realized that for the second time in two days, I stood in front this man in almost nothing. This time was worse because now all I wore were a pair of panties and a long shirt.
For a second, I wanted to be embarrassed, but then I decided that by the look on his face and his cautious look up and down the hall for others, my appearance offended him. Good. He deserved to be offended. This was my house. I would wear what I wanted in my own damned bedroom.
“You should probably…” he started to say.
“I should probably what? Get dressed? Why should I. This is my house. If you don’t want to see my fat ass half-naked, you should have picked somewhere else to stay.” I propped my hands on my hips, causing my shift to lift even further.
His eyes widened, then he looked away. Yep, get a good disgusting look at the fat girl’s thighs. Maybe you’ll think twice about banging on my door, I thought and grinned smugly at him

Okay, for those of you who want to know more about HIM, here is the next hundred words or so of HIM.
“Don’t be so dramatic,” my mother replied in a caustic voice, thankfully, oddly enough, interrupting my train of thought. That was just like my mother. She would have her say, no matter how I tried to avoid her retorts. I shouldn’t have said anything, but sometimes things come out without my control.
“I’m not being dramatic, Mother,” I spat in a low voice. We were more than a mile from the mainland, with another mile or so to go before we reached my grandparent’s resort.
“Don’t start this again,” Mom warned me. “You leave your uncle alone.”
Oh, I planned to stay as far away from that man as humanly possible. The problem was that he never left me alone. He seemed determined to find me wherever I hid.
--HIM has a tentative release date of January 2015.
