What I've read this week. 1-3-15

January 2, 2015

I started reading One Kick Saturday, 12-27-14 and finished 12-28-14. The novel is a bit disturbing. I'm not liking Kick and Bishop, the main characters, very much. For Kick to have the kind of training she does, she sure makes a lot of mistakes. Don't get me wrong, I know has she has issues, and when she is around her abusers, I understand that she freezes up, but with everyone else, I don't see it. I also think Bishop would have a much more cooperative Kick on his hands if he wasn't a manipulating liar. His reasons for lying and withholding information do not make sense to me. The concept is well done, but the characters aren't appealing.

I started Outage awhile back and just finished it last night, Saturday, 12-27-14. This is a pretty decent post-apocalyptic novel. I wish the author had shown more proof that what had happened was an EMP. I felt that everyone bought this a little too quickly, I loved the religious aspect. I'm not a holly roller, but I find religion missing is so many novels. The characters were great, Sammy was adorable. The story line was interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat. These wrap up neatly, almost too utopian, but I think we need more postivie in our lives.

I read Curve My Song in one night. This novella is funny and fast passed. I love these girls. They remind me a great deal of my friends and I. I love the men in their loves, and their mothers. I love that they are happy with who they are and their bodies. I wish I had that kind of confidence. So why the three stars you ask. Well, the story felt too rushed. We are given all the information on these people, which is great and doesn't leave you scratching your head to try to figure things out, but at the same time, the information is given is summary form, so you don't get the chance to visualize the scene or feel the emotions. I think if the author had spent a little more time developing this piece, it would have been an fantastic novel. I will be reading more from the author.

I'm still loving this dystopian story. In Once, Eve is finally brought before the king, but now she and Caleb might just be forever separated. I think the original direction of the story might have been more interesting if the author had continued in that direction, but the end turned out better than I thought after the twist was revealed.

I listened to George while at work yesterday. I love this man!!! :) :) :)

Finishing up the year with Lewis Carroll. :) :) :) :) :)

I started Pawn, New Year's Eve and finished New Year's Day. I loved this book. This novel is about as twisted as The Maze Runner. In Pawn, Kitty and Beniy are orphans who grew up together in the same orphanage and who are willing to do anything to be together forever despite the corrupt laws of the dystopian society in which they live. At the age of seventeen, Kitty and Benjy will take aptitude tests that will determine their place in society. When Kitty only receives a three and is assigned sewage detail in another community, she decides to turn to prostitution until Benjy takes his test and they can be together. On her first night in the club, Kitty is bought by the Prime Minister who has more in mind for her than being his mistress. What follows is a long list of lies, deceit, and death. This novel is a must read for all those who love the Hunger Games.

I started The Goddess Test New Year's Day and finished it on the 2nd. This novel was wonderful. I love the new play on mythology with characters I could relate to. I recommend this to tall who love Greek myths and love stories.

Her Wicked Wolf is an intense, sexy short story about the events surrounding the night alpha wolf Alistar takes his mate.

Well, I'm done for this week. Check back with next Friday to see what all I find over the next few days.
