It was Halloween weekend, and I had a number of plans and had a bit of a head cold. Today, I’ll be sharing from my new release, Resistant, a sci-fi/horror romance. Resistant is romance set in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. Saying Goodbye is back from editing, but I’m going to wait until December to go back to sharing from that novella.
In this excerpt, Sahara, the main character, is alone and unwilling to leave her house due to the zombies roaming her neighborhood. At this moment, she is trying to figure out if there are any zombies in her neighbor’s yard.
The second day of the outbreak, I saw Mr. and Mrs. Jackson fleeing their home with their two zombie teenage sons chasing behind them. The parents had been able to lure their two sons beyond their electric fence, then they circled around behind them, got back into their yard, and closed the gate on the boys. I hadn’t heard from the two since.
To test the waters, I threw a raw chunk of hamburger meat over my fence and onto their front walk. The couple had wandered around from the side of the house after the smell of fresh meat. The smell had also brought a couple of other zombies out of hiding, but they ran into the Jacksons’ fence and quickly backed away. I took out the Jacksons quickly and waited for any others to come out of hiding. The couple didn’t have but the two children, and I was sure I hadn’t seen anyone else enter the house, but you never knew.
