“I plan to turn him over to the cops, remember. I can’t do that from here.”
“I know, but I really want you to stay here.”
“I love you, too, little brother,” I said, messing up his hair.
“Ew. I’m not saying this because I love you. I’m saying this because Shane and I can take care of you better if you are here.”
“But it isn’t your job to take care of me.”
“Yes, it is,” they said together.
I laughed at them and shook my head.
