Chapter 8
Before choosing a day to drive the few blocks to our electrical board, I decided to tackle the random tasks I wanted to do around the house. I knew I was procrastinating—afraid of what I would discover—but I couldn’t help it.
First, I packed my father-in-law’s bedroom and moved the items upstairs to my office. George’s room was located between mine and the ground-floor bathroom, making it the perfect place to stockpile essentials like toilet paper, soap, shampoo, and other necessities.
Boxing up his clothes wasn’t hard, but taking down his bowling trophies, pictures of my mother-in-law, and other personal memorabilia was. I struggled to focus on the task and not wallow in memories, but his room was empty by early afternoon.
