February has been the month from HELL!!! Nearly everyone in my house is still sick, even our cat ran a fever. I think I actually finished this first one last week. My memory is a bit hazy.

What I've Read this Week 2-20-15

I'm still sick. Sunday started what I thought was food poisoning, but my have just been a violent stomach virus or the flu. As of right now, Wednesday 2-18-15, My husband and I have coughs, body aches, and he has been running a fever. Today’s excerpt comes from chapter one of my upcoming suspense/thriller, HIM. In this scene, Amy and her mother are having one of many discussions about the man Amy has repeatedly told her mother is molesting her. As you can see, Amy’s mother doesn’t believe anything is happening. (I played around with the punctuation and altered the scene a bit to fit the WWW guidelines.)

“Don’t start this again,” Mom warned me, “you leave your uncle alone.”

Oh, I planned to stay as far away from that man as humanly possible. The problem was that her brother, my molester, never left me alone. That man seemed determined to find me wherever I hid.

“You said he wasn’t going to be here,” I snapped, realizing, not for the first time, that this might be a trap.

“And he isn’t going to be, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make trouble by spreading your lies. Your uncle has had a lot on his plate lately with Mathew robbing that bank last year and going to jail and all. Poor man, so, don’t you go making any more trouble for him.”

Unfortunately, that night, Devan was slacking in his duties. He was apparently too caught up in the moment to bother caring about what anyone else was doing. So when she came into the bar looking the way she did, I pounced without a single thought about the consequences. If I had been in control of myself, I would have been able to smell the magic on her, the way I had smelled it last night. No matter how powerful she is, she can never hide her smell, not from us.

She is beautiful, there is no doubt, and even sober I might have pursued her for a little while. She is tall, Amazonian tall, with long, blood-red, curly hair. Her body is lean and curvy, exactly the thing that makes my loins ache. I really hate the women of this generation. They are either skeleton thin or morbidly obese. There seems to be no middle ground anymore. Whoever said that a woman was only beautiful if her bones poked through her skin was insane.

With no one to stop me, I bedded her with promises that she would not be a one-night stand, that I would call her the next morning, that I would do a lot of things that even then I knew I would never do. The sex had been great—what I could remember of it, anyway.

Yet, I barely paid any attention to her the next morning when my brother snuck into my room to wake me. Once I paid my bill at the front desk and was on my way back home, she became no more than a fleeting memory.

Apparently, I had made an impression on her. Last night she had shown up at my doorstep—pissed. How she had known where I lived, is beyond me. I had only moved into the cabin that week. The cabin had been one of the many homes we had inherited when we had bought back the rest of our land. The family that had previously owned the land had built the small log cabin as a vacation home.

My name isn’t even on the deed to the house, my older brother, Darius’, name is. I know I hadn’t given her his name. She had to have used magic to find me. If she did, her powers are greater than mine are. I can find my family and pack mates because of our blood and our bond, but some random woman I had slept with once was lost to me. I can’t even transport myself to a place I’m unfamiliar with, unless someone I am blood or bonded to is there or has been there, and even then, I have to be careful of how and where I land.

“Answer the door you worthless piece of shit,” she had screamed as she pounded on my door.

“Can I help you?” I asked, opening the door and not immediately recognizing her. After all, it had been nearly a month since the buyout.

“What do you mean, can you help me, you son of a bitch,” she screamed at me, her face turning as red as her hair.

“Look lady… I don’t… Oh shit.” The second she stepped to the doorframe, I recognized her.

“You’re damn right, ‘oh shit.’ What the fuck is wrong with you?” She was nearly nose-to-nose with me.

“Please, come in, Mave.” I said her name as a question while opening the door wider and stepping aside to get out of her line of sight and give her full access to my home, thinking that would at least help to calm her down. The look she gave me burned my soul. Literally. I felt my insides flame for a second, right before she walked passed me, and I inhaled her magical aroma. Strawberries and fire. I knew instantly I had really messed up. That smell was the sign of a very powerful witch.

“So,” she said, walking to the middle of the room and turning to face me.

“So what?” I knew I had messed up by sleeping with a witch. Most of them hated our kind. Surely, she had known what I was. I’m positive she hadn’t been drunk or even drinking. Was she going to accuse me of raping her or slipping her some sort of drug or magical concoction that compelled her to sleep with me?

“Well, you’re obviously not dead, which had been my first thought when I didn’t hear from you by the third day.”

“Excuse me?”

“You promised to call. I waited. Some of my friends said that it was customary to wait three days after getting a number to call. I figured since we had slept together you might forgo that rule, but then, when you didn’t call, I waited the three days. When I didn’t hear from you, I got worried. My friends told me to blow you off. They said you were just some asshole who had used me. I couldn’t believe it. You had promised. I went to the bar where we met and the hotel we stayed at that night. They both said you and your brothers were from out of town. That was when I began to fear your death. I searched and searched the internet for automobile accidents and plane crashes…”

That was the moment that I knew she was crazy. I should have known that night because of the things she did and was willing to do in bed. My uncle used to say that the crazy ones were always freaky in bed. I listened to her rant for a few more minutes before I cut her off.

“Look, I am real sorry about that night. My brothers and I were celebrating. Hard. I had a little too much to drink. If I said anything inappropriate, I am sorry. And I probably would have called had I had your number…” I started to lie.

“But you did have my number. I programmed it into your phone.”

“You…what…” I pulled my phone out of my back pocket and scrolled through the numbers. “It’s not in here.”

“What.” She snatched the phone from me and scrolled through the names. “You erased it.”

“No, I didn’t.” My brother must have when he realized what I had done, the bastard. I wasn’t about to tell the crazy woman in front of me this. What if I had gotten her pregnant? Thinking that caused me to blurt out, “Are you pregnant?” My heart raced at the thought of her carrying my child. On one hand, it was a great thing to bring a new member into the pack. On the other hand, for this woman to be its mother was going to cause some serious turmoil.

“No,” she said with a hint of sadness in her voice.

I fell into the seat next to me with obvious relief.

“Asshole,” she spat at my action.

“Look, I’m sorry. It’s just that…”

“Shut up. I don’t care. You had no intentions toward me whatsoever, did you?”

“Honestly, no.”

“Then why do it?”

“Why sleep with you?”

She nods.

I wanted to tell her because she was easy, but that wouldn’t be very modern of me. She was no easier than I was. We had both bedded people we didn’t know. Whereas I had intended mine to be a one-night stand, she obviously had not.

“I was drunk and you were there.” Damn it, I hadn’t meant to say that either.

“You know what, fuck you.”

And that had been the moment I became a cat. One minute I was sitting sprawled out on a chair in obvious relief of not fathering a child with this loopy fucking cunt, the next I was an itty-bitty ball of fur in the middle of the chair cushion.

What I've Read this Week 2-13-15

I'm a little sick this week, so I haven't read much, but I hope you guys enjoy this week's list. 

I finished this book Wednesday morning: I'm just not a fan of this series. I could keep all the characters and story lines straight in my head.

I really needed this story after the week I've had. You can always count on Dan to make the simplest things hilarious. I'm not your typical female. I hate to shop; therefore, I felt Dan's pain in having to go into a place like BuyMart. You may plan to go in for one thing, but you always come out with more.

I loved seeing how Dan maneuvered his child through the store, getting things she needed, and testing the waters on things she might need or want for her upcoming birthday.

I also think the pl I really needed this story after the week I've had. You can always count on Dan to make the simplest things hilarious. I'm not your typical female. I hate to shop; therefore, I felt Dan's pain in having to go into a place like BuyMart. You may plan to go in for one thing, but you always come out with more.

I also think the play between him and his wife is hilarious. Dan does a great job of showing how normal he and his family are. You see the love in the family, but you know their lives aren't perfect, and they make mistakes. When my god-daughter was growing up, we didn't have the mesh barriers for trampolines. I was always terrified that she bounce herself right off the thing, as they experienced.

As always, these stories are a must read for anyone who needs to bring a smile into their day, as I did today, and anyone who just needs to feel normal in a society where the media constantly makes most of us feel abnormal if our lives aren't perfect or isn't full of drama.

This a beautiful love story about childhood friends who slowly realize that they have been more than friends for a long time. This story is funny, sexy, heartbreaking, and romantic. I also recommend you eat before starting this novel as all the wonderful food described inside will make you hungry as well as horny. ;)

#WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY 2-4-14 - #Excerpt form #Resistant, #Sci/Fi #romance

Welcome back to WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY. I’m sorry I missed last week, but I took time off to finish my last read-through of this novel before sending it off to my editor.

This is my ninth week on this blog hop. This week’s piece comes from my current romance WIP, Resistant. Resistant is a romance set in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. I’m talking to a photographer right now about photo options for this cover, so stay tuned for that and the synopsis. I hate writing those, so I’ll probably wait until the last moment to write it, as usual, but it will come.

So on to the excerpt. In this scene, I’m moving a head a bit in the novel. Sahara has been kidnapped, and by sheer dumb luck, her people have found her. Something you’ve all been waiting for happens in this scene. ;)

I tucked my head into Charles’ retreating shoulder, just as Daniel ordered everyone from the room, ordering Charles to get the keys to my chains or something to break them with, and telling everyone else to search the rest of the house. When nearly everyone was gone, and he could get a better look at me, he ordered Divya to bring me some clothes.

He pushed the door closed as she left and turned to look at me. At the fierce expression on his face, I backed against the wall and pulled my sheet tighter. He propped his gun against the wall by the door and stepped toward me. His eyes took in everything. The stains on the bed. The bucket on the floor. My nakedness.

Before he reached the bed, both Divya and Charles were back. Divya looked from me to Daniel, sat the clothes on the bed and left. Charles paid no attention to Daniel. He rushed to me, cupped my cheek with one hand, and held up the key to my chains with the other. I burst into tears again, and he kissed my forehead before bending to unlock me. At the sound of my cry, Daniel rushed forward and pulled me into him, my back to his chest so that I could watch Charles.

The second the chains fell from me, I screamed in relief. I stretched my leg, then brought my knee up to my chest so that I could rub my ankle. Charles stood, bent over, kissed my forehead again, and left the room.

“Sahara,” Daniel said tentatively.

I ignored him, and flexed my leg. I didn’t want a lecture. I didn’t want…

“Sahara,” he said again and turned me toward him forcibly.

“I…” I opened my mouth to say something in protest, but he kissed me. The shock of it shut my body down for an entire second, then the need in his kiss hit me, and I kissed him back, turning into him a bit more and wrapping my arms around his neck. Quickly the kissed turned desperate, with both of us trying to get as close as we could to the other to reassure the both of us that everything was okay.

When the kissed turned from reassurance to lustful, Daniel pulled away from me slowly and said, “I’m sorry. I just…”

I kissed him this time. I wanted so bad at that moment to know he wasn’t repulsed by me. That he didn’t hate or blame me. I wanted confirmation that I was alive. That the man I loved had come for me.

#8Sunday and #SundaySnippet - 2-1-15 - From #SHIFTER a PA/RO

Today’s excerpt comes from chapter seventeen of my supernatural romance, Shifter. In this scene, Devan and Dimitri are discussing Dimitri’s predicament—his being turned into a cat by an angry witch, for those who are new to the story. (I made a few changes to the original scene to make it fit the eight-sentence requirement.)

“You’re a dumbass,” I tell my brother, shifting the subject back to my predicament as Richards tells Abby that my dog is also missing.

“What?” Devan asks, cutting his gaze down to me in confusion.

“It didn’t cross your mind once that I might be in a form other than a wolf or dog?”

“No, you never shift into anything else, and especially not a cat as cute as you. She should have named you Mittens or Fluffy.”

“Got to hell.”

“Why are you a cat anyway?”

“I think Mave thought this would be funny.”

What I've Read This Week 1-30-15

In Wolf Bite Cadence gets caught up in a battle between two wolf packs and discovers she is much more than a bank teller. 

I love this novel. I loved the world the author created and the characters. I loved that it is a standalone and doesn't cut off abruptly with an annoying cliffhanger--Can you tell I've read to many of those as of late in this genre. :) I just wanted more. I wanted more background history on Grayson and his pack, more about Cadence and her family, more hints right off the bat that she wasn't a mere mortal, would have liked to known more about why Rogue is bent on destruction. I feel that if the story had fifty or hundred more pages certain sections wouldn't have felt so rushed and we would have had a better build up to the scene we really wanted (wink, wink). 

That being said, this novel is still a great story and well worth reading. I'll have to add the author and her books to my favorite list. :)

--Author Jennifer Reynolds

I loved part two of this series just as much as I loved part one. Savvy is getting more adorable the older she gets. The stories continue to be hilarious, emotional, and inspirational. 

I love that this family is normal. Dan doesn't try to make himself out to be father of the year or his daughter to be a prodigy. They buy used toys off craigslist and buy their birthday cakes from Publix just like the rest of us. Savvy throws tantrums and mom and dad lose their patients. 

I was dubious in the beginning because the first two stories didn't seem to really be about Savvy. They weren't bad, but they didn't feel relevant to what the book is supposed to be about, but the sunglass story that followed them made up for things.

I don't have children, but since I have eleven nieces and nephews, and most of my friends have children, I could relate to most of the stories. The Winnie the... well, I won't say what Savvy says, brings to mine one about my best friend's son. He loves toy cars. He loved to bang them against things. When he did he said a word that should have been bam but wasn't. The word sounds just like bam, but with a d. We couldn't get him to stop saying it because he didn't hear the difference in the words. My best friend lived in mortification for about three months. 

On a side note, I have to stop listening to these books in public. I nearly wrecked my car in the 'that is a pee pee right there story.' I burst into laughter while trying to make a turn in five o'clock traffic, not a good thing. 

There are few times when things get to be a bit repetitive. He tells us a number of times in the same story that his mom made pound cake from them when they were little. There are a few times where the narrator of the audio book skips words or letter. In one place it sounds as if he says I stead when he meant instead. These instances were few and far between and were probably only noticeable because the version of the novel I have is an audio one. 

Overall this is a wonderful series that I highly recommend and will continue to follow.

I loved this novel. I would loved to have known more about their childhood together and the feud between packs, but for the most part, this is a great novel. What isn't to love about a glasses wearing alpha bear. I can't wait to get man hands on the other books in this series.
