Okay, I’m new to the publishing world, having only released my first novel this past February and am even newer to the blogging world. I found this blog through another blog that I’m following. I know the author I am following is predominately a romance writer, but I didn’t do enough research on this page to know that it was romance novels only. I caught on quickly and went groveling to Ms. Melody, begging for forgiveness.
And here is my formal apology to you guys. I’m so sorry for last week. Whereas, HIM can be a bit graphic, it isn’t a romance novel. It is a suspense thriller, centered around a young girl who has spent her entire life being physically and sexually abused by her uncle. The main character is telling the story to her therapist a year after her abuser is found dead on an island her family owns during their family reunion. Throughout the novel, you discover they type of person Amy is by seeing what she went through, how she tried to get herself away from her molester, how she fought back, etc while at the same time trying to figure out who finally ended the man’s life. Yes, Amy has a love interest, but as you can see, the novel isn’t very romancy. Sorry about that. Luckily for you guys, and myself, I also write romances. I promise from here on out, if you hear from me, I will be sharing one of those pieces. I have one published piece, and about four others in the works, so surely I’ll have something to share with you guys each week. I really enjoyed reading everyone’s post last week and want to continue to be a part of the group.
Now enough of my blathering. On to what you really want to read. This WIP is romance novel set in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. This excerpt comes from chapter 3 when my couple first meet.
“Why, here?” I asked still unsure as to why my home was so special. I had electricity, whoopty do. According to him so did about a dozen or more homes in the area.
“Why not,” he said, purposely being obtuse.
I wanted to knock that cocky smile off his face.
Before I could reply to his remark, Daniel stepped onto the porch. The man immediately had my attention. My anger and frustration at his superior forgotten for the moment. Military fatigues cover nearly every inch of the man, but not his eyes, which was probably why they were so noticeable. Even though he wasn’t looking in my direction, I could see that they were the most mesmerizing shade of emerald green.
Great, not only did I have a condescending military leader making me feel tiny and unimportant intent on sleeping under my roof, but I now had a man that would be able to turn me into a stammering fifteen-year-old if he ever turned his attention on me on my hands.
“Sir, the group will be here first thing…” Daniel started.
He looked at me as he was finishing his sentence. For a second, I was confused about what made him trail off the way he had, then I looked down at myself. I was wearing nothing but an oversized t-shirt and a thin flannel housecoat, which I hadn’t tied shut. Both articles of clothing barely reached my knees. To my utter horror, the fact that I wasn’t wearing a bra and the fact that hadn’t shaved my legs in over a month was plainly obvious to everyone looking at me. My night just kept getting better and better.
“Shit,” I spat and quickly pulled the housecoat closed. “Fine you can stay. Mi casa es su casa, and all that crap. Excuse me while I go put some clothes on.” With that, I turned and went upstairs.
Before I could disappear into my room, the leader called after me. “Ma’am.”
“Yes,” I said, looking over the banister.
“I would like to send one of my people up to examine you,” he said.

Okay, for those of you who want to know more about HIM, here is another hundred words or so of HIM.
To my right I could feel my mother glaring at me. My gaze stayed focused on the mainland we were slowly leaving behind us. Every part of my being wanted to be back there. There was safe. There I could hide easier. There he wouldn’t potentially be waiting for me around every corner, hiding in every shadow so that he could “accidently” brush against me, couldn’t corner me in dark places and…
